glad its quieter
I was looking for something that was much quieter on the freeway, and it is. Which I am happy about no droning.
I do experience a pretty loud rasp. not sure if that is just me, but it's not the greatest sound.
Turn heads for $200!
If you are a poor college kid balancing tuition and car upgrades, or you just can't see the point in spending $300 more for the same stainless-steel metal material with a more popular name, I would say get this for sure. It sounds good and gets rid of the horrible stock catback exhaust.
Looks great, very solid and well-welded. The muffler is subtle and doesn't draw too much attention, but definitely looks better than stock.
I give it 4 stars because no matter what we did we could not get the midpipe to join smoothly with the stock wrx downpipe. There was a small leak on the top of the flange. It was probably just a bad gasket that came with my exhaust, but we ended up having to glue the eff out of the two flanges with exhaust repair glue.
I drove 500 miles (conservatively) to my hometown to install it at about 3000rpm the whole way (80 mph); averaged 23 miles per gallon. Put it on and drove the exact same path back to my college (again conservatively) at the same speed and rpm and averaged 26 mpg. Obviously there are many factors that could have caused this, but in my opinion the exhaust makes a big difference in economy.
All in all, I love my exhaust and am thrilled. Good buy and cheap price, and imporimageracing.com delivered for free within 4 days clear across the country :)
price can't be beat
shipping was fast . installation was not bad defiantly need the extra long hangers (4). I have a 3" catted downpipe stock midpipe and a magnaflow muffler and was looking to do a full 3" turbo back so I thought I would try this cattback out because of the price . I would say the sound is good it is not to loud but defiantly not as quiet as hush or wispier series from other brands what I don't like is the way the hangers are mounted to the muffler there are welded to thin strips of metal then welded to the muffler seems that could be problematic , think I might have them reinforced the other two hangers look strong .
10x better than expected
I was on a budget and in the market for a new exhaust when I found the gimmick catback. What a huge surprise! The packaging was very durable, presentation/quality was like something you would expect from a well known company and installation was super fast. I love the sound too. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap reliable quality exhaust!
Great sound, great price!
This GMS exhaust has a nice, subtle tone to it, deep but full, not raspy. Great exhaust if you want the benefits of a full 3" catback but don't want an excessively noisy exhaust tone. Only note is that the bolts supplied by Gimmick are too big for the factory catalytic converter flanges, but you can reuse the spring bolts from your stock exhaust or, if they're rusted through like mine did, pick up new ones from your local Subaru dealership for ~$20. You also may want to order longer hangers, the stock hangers leave only about 1/8" between bumper and exhaust tip. Other than that, I'm very pleased with this exhaust, fantastic catback on a budget.
Clean sound, and great fit.
Just installed this today and It went on with out any problems. I used the long hangers and it fit great even with a hitch on the car. I have about 1/4" clearance from hitch to tip and I have a Drawtight hitch. Known to have vary little clearance. The long hangers are a bit hard to get on the car but are worth it for sure. And Are a must even if you dont have a hitch. I had an SPT before this and the sound is almost the same (Not to loud and no drone on the highway!); but this one dose seam to flow better and is less then half the cost!
Good subtle sound, Great quality for the price!
Had this arrive earlier in the week and installed it on the car. For the price the quality cant be beat! Nice subtle clean exhaust note and decent looks. Note- MUST be installed with extra LONG exhaust hangers!
Great sound and presentation!
Out of the box, the GMS exhaust looked great. The polished look was flawless and all the welds looked strong and neat. Months on the road and no fatigue. It was nice to have all the hardware in the box as well. Extra-long Torque Solution exhaust hangers are suggested. In conlusion, the sound was burbly and not too loud, the look was sleek and low-profile. This purchase was a no brainer

best exhaust for the money

good welds, thick flanges, good bends. over all pretty nice exhaust even for 200$. i have a 2.0 and installed just the cat back section and was surprised at how easy it went on. how well it fit and how great it sounds. you get a nice boxer ruble even with just the cat back. no highway drone!!! and there is defiantly a power gain. not alot but u can tell the diffrence. the muffler is polished but the rest is just SS. youl also defiantly need longer hangers.
