VTEC. Turbo. AWE. Presenting the AWE Exhaust Suite for the Honda FK8 Civic Type R.
Sound Perfection: AWE 180 Technology
Perfect tone, straight through design, no drone. Compliments of AWE 180 Technology.
As exhaust gases exit the K20 engine and flow into an AWE 180 Technology equipped resonator, they pass through strategically located ports, and into reflection chambers. Sound waves, carried by these exhaust gasses, bounce off the walls of the reflection chambers. By controlling the size and location of the ports and the chambers, we also control when the sound waves exit the chambers. The specific timing of when the reflected sound waves rejoin the main exhaust flow creates a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree out-of-phase sound wave that cancels out problematic frequencies. All of this with a straight-through design -- in other words, all the power, none of the drone. More on AWE 180 Technology in the tab above.
At the intersection of sophistication and aggression lies the Touring Edition Exhaust. A full 3” T304L stainless steel downpipe-back configuration, the Touring Edition Exhaust is the perfect dose of steel for drivers looking for straight-pipe performance, a deep, sophisticated exhaust note, and zero drone at highway speeds.
Featuring an integrated front pipe, bespoke midpipe resonator, and AWE’s patented drone-canceling solution, 180 Technology®, the Touring Edition delivers a full-bodied, rasp-free K20 soundtrack unachieved by any of its peers. Under boost and heavy throttle, the Touring Edition screams. At highway speeds, drone-free within the cabin -- the best of both worlds. Perfectly engineered and packaged for the FK8 Civic Type R, all backed by AWE No CEL and Perfect Fitment Guarantees..

Install: Install was fairly easy by myself. Used jack stands, hanger removal tool (highly recommended) and impact with wobble extension. The impact is not necessary but makes it much easier. For the front pipe, follow AWE's video in which they remove the Pendulum Mount bolt so you can push the engine forward while lifting and twisting the the new front pipe into place, very simple to do with the mount bolt removed. The hardest part for me was getting the muffler onto the pipe while also inserting into the 4 hanger rubber mounts.
Product: Meh, its OK. Sounds pretty good at low speed with some burble, but highway is obnoxious. I was expecting the resonator and muffler combo to quiet it down but its still loud. If you have the windows down (so the sound can escape the cabin) it's not bad at all. But come winter or rain when you have to put the windows up, it'll be hella annoying with a constant ERRRRRR sound in the cabin with lots of vibration. Not my cup of tea. I will try sound deadening the trunk, adding an extra resonator or selling it for a valved exhaust system.
Quality: I haven't had it long enough to test its long-term durability/resistance to weather but I will say I am glad I got the black tips as they get ugly fast and if you opt for the silver, be aware that the center tip will get far dirtier faster than the outer tips since most of the exhaust comes out the center tip (due to the design). Even the black tips have already begun to chip/fade and it's not even that…
Like most people I watched a 1000 exhaust videos, and eventually decided on the AWE touring. I did the install myself with two jack stands. Hardest part of the install was getting the front pipe installed, but overall it wasn't too bad. Tip: get an exhaust hanger tool, I didn't have one and it added some unnecessary frustration.
The sound of this exhaust is really great at idle and driving around town. There is a little bit of burble now when accelerating, and also downshifting. The bad is the volume on the highway. I have only driven with the system for about 200 miles, so it's not fully broken in, but right now I would say it's headache inducing on the highway. I'm hoping the break-in with mellow out the sound a bit, and if not, I have ordered some sound deadener for the hatch area. Hopefully that works out because I really do like the exhaust around town.

Awe touring exhaust sounds AWEsome
Quick and fast service
I have never installed an exhaust before, but I have to say this one sounds great. When researching for exhaust, you always have to be careful of drone, raspyness, and overall sound. I wanted to be sure I checked all of these off, and Im pretty sure I made the best choice. Zero drone, no raspiness at all, and the sound is deep and thoaty with much loved burbling when shifting in lower gears. Also pops a little here and there. To give you an idea of the sound, when you start to accelerate between 2200-3000 rpm the sound is very loud and super fun, especially since most people will be shifting around these rpms, so there isn't a need to accelerate to higher rpms to gets a nice sound. Like most hondas with vtect you have to hit high rpms to really hear your engine, with the Type R, its not neccesary since Vtec works a little different. You also get some increased volume around 4,000rpm which is nice when you want to accelerate fast and also be loud. And whats good about it being quiter between 3,000-4000 rpm is that this is the usual range for highway speeds so it will not be obnoxious during highway. I could say that with windows down, I have no issues listening to music and talking inside of the cabin. However, if you are on a call with someone they will prob hear your car more than before but its no big deal.
The install was very smooth, make sure to remove heat shield and rear motor mount to make install a breeze, without doing this, you will have some difficulty. Also, I…
