Lower your Oil Temperature
Chances are if you are looking at getting an oil cooler for your 2015+ WRX you are planning or have already taken your car out for a track day. One question you might be asking yourself is "Do I need the Thermostatic version or the basic oil cooler?" The Thermostatic version (Perrin included) bypasses the stock liquid-to-liquid cooler, and your oil temperature is regulated exclusively via the Air-to-Liquid cooler. If you live in climates where you have more extreme variance in temperature, or you spend lots of time sitting in traffic and this car is your daily driver, I highly recommend getting this version. This one works in conjunction with the stock liquid-to-liquid cooler. Keeping the stock cooler in the loop, allows you to maintain a shorter warm up period in colder climates by allowing the oil to be warmed by coolant, and also allows your oil also cooled by the higher surface area radiator during stand still traffic, where reduced volume of air will be flowing through your air-to-liquid oil cooler.
My initial impressions of the cooler are very good. On average for day to day driving, I see oil temperatures of ~216* F. During my 45 minute varied driving test I saw at highest, temperatures of 207* F when regularly stopping for lights and stop signs. During continuous, more aggressive back road driving through some curves, 3000-6000 RPM in 2nd and 3rd gear, I averaged around 200* F which is the sweet spot for oil lubrication and longevity for service intervals.…
