5MT 1997-2005ish
This linkage update is for the pre-2006 Subaru 5MT that DO NOT have the external return spring. Subaru stopped using the external return spring sometime in 1998. If you are unsure please look at your linkage under the car to check.
What it does: Eliminates much of the side to side slop that develops in the lever due to the stock bushings wearing out.
Why a whole linkage when the other styles we offer are just bushings: The STi, the 05+ Legacy 5MT, and ALL the 06+ Subaru 5MTs have a linkage that you can completely take apart and replace the bushings. The cars prior to this in that 1998 to 2005 timeframe have a linkage that is riveted together and cannot be serviced or upgraded.
What about the bushings - won't they just fail again: No. As part of the Updated linkage you get TiC linkage bushings. They are much stiffer and more wear resistant that the stock pieces.
Why you want it: Simple. Better definition of each gear so you're no longer rowing in pudding.

The roll pins were a major pain, but an extra long punch makes the job doable. Worth the effort though. Major difference with shifting. Much more precise.
It is so good. PERIOD.
Installation was a PITA because the stock rollpin is too hard to get out..
Really good. Took out the slop in my shifter. Only thing I would say is these are a pain to install especially if your original linkage was not replaced

Great product, from a great Ohio company. Completely solved my sloppy shifter, and was great under high strain on the track at Nelson Ledges the next day. I had some very minor modifications, but it's a swap car. 99 USDM RS with 05 NA Forester 5mt, but an easy work around. Just had to spread the shifter side forks the tiniest bit. So easy to install in the car if you have a jack or stand to hold the trans and you remove the trans brace.
Great quality product shifts perfect gears fall right into place
Picture is the stock unit I removed. This piece is beefy. My wrx 5speed feels brand new. The linkage I removed had no bushings left. Only issue is roll pin was a PITA to remove and I had to open the fork A tiny bit as this piece is beefed up.
